WE WERE TALKING ABOUT IPL AND THIS HAPPENED...
My friends and I were talking about Cricketers and suddenly a thought has struck me!
"No matter how great you are at something, if you aren't consistent or if you aren't evolving then your relevance is short-lived!"
During our conversation about Cricket we all started talking about how much we enjoy watching their swift actions on pitch and while we all were engrossed in visualizing our favourite cricketers' moves, we starting naming our favourite players.
A few named Rohit, a few Virat, a few Maahi, a few Bumrah and a few others!
It was then when I realized that something was odd! Someone's name has escaped from our list of faves!! Sachin!!!!! Despite being called as "God of Cricket", he wasn't on our list!
None of us mentioned Sachin and this made me wonder, why we haven't had him at our first thought even when we all respect him a lot and are very well aware of the fact of him being the best of all times.
Kapil Dev, The Haryana Hurricane who have been one of the best captains wasn't on our list either!
What led to Kapil Paaji, Rahul Dravid (The Wall), Sourav Ganguly (Dada), Sunil Gavaskar (Little Master), Nawab of Pataudi, Anil Kumble (Jumbo), V.V.S Laxman, Mohinder Amarnath (Jimmy), Dilip Vengsarkar (Colonel), Ravi Shastri, Sachin and many other prominent players not being on our list?
Ummm...........
Maybe it was due to our ignorance...
Or
Maybe it was due to the knowledge that we possess about Cricket is very limited as we haven't watched all the matches that happened in the past!
Whatever it was but it was most centainly due to these 2 obvious reasons:
1. Lack of Connect :
They have been exceptional but since we don't see them on the pitch now, we could barely form any emotional ties. And, watching the old matches won't kick in the instincts that will lead to an upsurge in levels of Adrenaline rush (won't bring about the same excitement) as we already know the end result of the match.
Since the emotional presence is barely involved, the interrelation of a fan and is barely formed!
2. Time Variation :
Be it in life or in a game, change in time leads to changes in the process. Hence the popular strategies which were used by people the then, wouldn't be applicable tout de suite (right now).
The kind of balls a batsman face today is not the same as the one they used to hit earlier! The style of bowling, rules of fielding and form of players keeps evolving.
Time has aggravated players' performance and players have adapted to different strategies!
Also, after a certain time, player has to retire keeping their physical form in mind!
Hence, with time, that mania, that craze, that stardom fades!
The person who's cherished today may be forgotten 50 years later!
That's why, no matter how good a human is at something, if he isn't consistent or isn't evolving then his relevance will be short lived!
As young individuals, we must learn this fact at the earliest and avoid stressing over name, fame, position, power and money as each of them is short lived.
Just learn to keep pace with time and keep evolving everyday a little to achieve that "great forever"!
